James Cromarty Smith, 1863-1944, Church of Scotland minister, was born in 1843 at the Manse of Firth, Orkney Islands, Scotland. He was educated at Edinburgh University, Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1888, he became minister in Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, and from 1905 to 1939 he was the Church of Scotland minister in Coatdykes (later Trinity), Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire.
